There is definitely depth there but the problem is there is nobody you consider a top line player outside of an ageing Elias. Vanek would be a good add for sure, but we don't have a first rounder. Hemsky could be possible too. I can see us sqeaking into one of the bottom spots, but then again we have the toughest division so still might not be good enough. Stupid that we have more teams in our division than West teams.

Guarantee you they won't get anything close to that from anybody. Larsson alone is much more valuable than a rental Vanek.

Why would they need Henrique? Sabres are rebuilding. I could see a prospect like maybe Reid Boucher and a pick, but not Henrique. They're not going to be contenders in at least 3 years.

That doesn't really make sense. I'm sure most rebuilding teams would happily take a 23-year-old center who's proven he belongs in the NHL and can produce in the playoffs.

I wouldn't want to give away Larsson, Henrique or good prospects like Boucher. Kovalchuk basically took the Devils away from being a contender with the additions already made IMO but his departure has eliminated that. I would prefer the Devils sign Brunner, Henrique, and JJ, fight the best they can this year because they'll still be competitive and wait for next year's free agent pool.

I understand Lou will want to give Marty the best chance to win in what may be his final season but if the season doesn't turn out well, Kovalchuk will bear the blame because of what we lose in him: a star player who also is on the ice more than any other forward by about 2:30 (over Stamkos).

Don't want it too either. Not for the price when we can just talk to him in a few months. He would no doubt improve us but idk i kinda want to stay away from the "star" player for a little. See how we do going back to the score by committee philosophy. Think it's going to benefit us we never really did have Kovy carry us they way we all envisioned he would. Seemed like too much of our game plan was get the puck to Kovy whether they did it consciously or unconsciously idk.

Any word on how close Henrique is to signing. You would have to think it would be at the top of his list of priorities. Maybe we will have to give him a bit more to ensure he will be will us for a while but you also don't want his contract to expire once he is a UFA.

3-3.5 million is way too much for a player who's played 1 year in the NHL. If it is that much I hope it's only 2 year contract. I'd rather take grabowski who has played several years in NHL and has shown with right line and coach can be very good.
